Family Mediators work with families to help them resolve various family issues. We are Supreme Court Family Mediators and work with individuals to help facilitate communication. We are non-adversarial and highly trained in working with families and married couples who are high-conflict. We can help couples who are entering into the divorce process to divide their assets, prepare Marital Settlement Agreements, and Parenting Plans. As Family Mediators we are an alternative to the expensive process of a divorce attorney. A Family Mediator can also significantly reduce the amount of time that it takes to go through the process of a divorce.
As a Counselor and Family Mediator we work with couples to learn patterns of behaviors that are preventing them from having a connection that allows them to flourish.
Our office is warm and friendly. We are located in Vero Beach, Florida.
While knowledgeable in family legal matters, an attorney’s role is not to be neutral, rather it is there job to solely represent their client. A mediator can also be used in conjunction when parties are represented by an attorney in a family matter. Most jurisdictions will require a couple to attend mediation prior to their final hearing. If and when a couple is ordered to attend mediation prior to the final hearing granting a dissolution of marriage, time is limited. Generally, a court-ordered mediation is limited to three-hours. A private mediation allows for a couple to spend more time resolving their issues.
There are a significant number of elements that need to be addressed when a couple is divorcing. If there are children from the marriage, a parenting plan and child support need to be addressed. If the divorcing couple acquired real estate, that needs to be addressed as well. Retirement, and QDRO’s are often part of the process when a couple is divorcing. As a counselor and family mediator we are experienced in high-conflict matters. Our counselors and mediators are highly trained in divorce, finances and counseling.
Divorce is never easy even if both parties in a marriage want out. A divorce closely mirrors the grieving process of the death of a loved one. A divorce is a significant loss regardless if the divorce is something that both parties are desiring. There are a lot of emotions to endure when going through the process of a divorce. Emotions can overpower logic and couples can begin to fight, simply for the sake of fighting. Often, a divorcing couple will not even fully understand what the end goals are due to frayed nerves and intense emotions. A divorcing couple want to hurt each other, as a way to cope with their own loss. There are other ways to end a marriage without spending ten’s of thousand of dollars and destroying your partner.
When divorcing, a married couple has several options. They can elect to go through the process entirely by themselves and file the required paperwork with the state of Florida, they can hire an attorney, or they can hire a Mediator. We are Family Mediators in the state of Florida. A Family Mediator is a neutral party to the divorce process. An attorney is an adversarial party a represents only one party; either the husband or the wife and not both. We work with both parties to come to a resolution without having the court system make the decision for them.
Once a divorcing couple opts to go in front of a judge, their ability to be creative and design an amicable solution is lost. The judge is required to go by the guidelines that the statues in the state of Florida has defined. For some divorcing couples, that is exactly what they are looking for, for others it is the exact opposite of what they want. A Florida Divorce and Family Mediator provides a divorcing couple many options outside of the courtroom to help find an amicable solution in separating from their spouse.
